The agreement
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are between you and Dojah ("Dojah", "we", "us") and govern your use of the Scout agent app, this website, and the work you do through Scout. By signing in to the app, or by using this website, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.
Business clients who send us addresses to verify are covered by a separate service agreement, not by these Terms.
Who can be a Scout agent
To use the app as an agent you must:
- be at least 18 years old;
- be legally able to work in Nigeria;
- have been enrolled by a Dojah operations team member — the app will not accept a phone number that is not on our roster; and
- complete the in-app training and pass its assessment before taking your first job.
We may ask you to verify your identity with your BVN or NIN and a selfie. Enrolment is at our discretion and we may decline or withdraw it.
Your account and your phone
Your account is tied to your mobile number and to one handset at a time. You sign in with a one-time code; the app may also ask for your fingerprint, face or PIN to unlock.
You must keep your phone and sign-in codes to yourself. Everything done from your account is treated as done by you. Tell us at once if your phone is lost or you think someone else has used your account. You must not let anyone else complete jobs under your name.
How work must be done
Our clients pay for the truth about an address. When you take a job you agree to:
- go to the address in person and capture the evidence the app asks for, at that address, at that time;
- never fake, stage, reuse or edit evidence, and never use fake-location apps, modified handsets or any other means to make evidence look like something it is not;
- report honestly what you found, including that an address does not exist or the person is not known there;
- treat residents with respect: identify yourself as a Scout agent when asked, do not enter private property without permission, and leave if asked to;
- keep applicants' details private: use the name, number and address you are shown only to complete that job, never store, share or contact the person for any other purpose, and never photograph people or documents unless the app specifically asks for it;
- put safety first: do not take risks with your own safety to complete a job — release it instead; and
- follow the law and the guidance in the app's training at all times.
You may hold a limited number of jobs at once and each must be completed within its claim window. A job you do not complete in time returns to the pool. You may release a job you have claimed; repeatedly claiming and releasing jobs affects your standing.
Evidence, review and outcomes
Every submission is checked, automatically and by our review team, for location, timing, image integrity and consistency. We decide, acting reasonably, whether a submission is approved, rejected, or sent back for another visit. Our decision on the verification result is final as between you and us; the client may raise its own queries, which we may pass on to you.
All evidence, results and other content you create through the app belong to Dojah and its clients. You grant us all rights needed to use it for the verification service, quality review, fraud prevention and training our systems. You keep no right to use it yourself.
Your trust score and tier are calculated from your history. They determine how many jobs you can hold, how your work is reviewed and which jobs you are offered. They can go down as well as up.
Earnings and payment
- Each job shows its price before you claim it. The price is fixed when you claim; it does not change afterwards except by a boost we choose to add.
- You earn the price only when the submission is approved. Rejected submissions are not paid. A job closed by our operations team on your behalf is paid or not at our reasonable discretion.
- Approved earnings are credited to your Scout balance and paid out in regular payout cycles to the bank account you have verified in the app. Amounts are in Naira.
- If a payment is made in error, or an approval is later reversed because of fraud or a client dispute, we may deduct the amount from your balance or future earnings, and we will tell you why.
- You are responsible for any tax due on what you earn. We may withhold tax where the law requires us to and will tell you if we do.
- Bank details must be in your own name. We are not responsible for payments sent to an account you gave us incorrectly.
Your relationship with Dojah
You work through Scout as an independent contractor. These Terms do not create an employment, agency or partnership relationship. You choose which jobs to claim and when to work; you are not required to accept any job, and we do not guarantee that any amount of work will be available. You are responsible for your own transport, phone, data and insurance.
You must not present yourself as an employee or representative of Dojah beyond identifying yourself as a Scout agent for the purpose of a job.
Suspension and closing your account
We may suspend or close your account, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have broken these Terms. Examples include submitting false evidence, using a fake-location app, sharing an applicant's details, letting someone else use your account, or behaving abusively towards a resident or our staff.
If we find fraud, we may also permanently bar the identity behind the account so it cannot be re-enrolled with a new phone number, and we may withhold unpaid earnings connected to the fraudulent work. Earnings for approved, genuine work will still be paid.
You may stop working through Scout at any time by signing out and telling your operations contact. Your balance will be paid out in the normal cycle.
Confidentiality
Everything you learn through Scout about applicants, clients, job volumes, prices and how our checks work is confidential. Do not share it with anyone outside Dojah during or after your time as an agent, except where the law requires you to.
The app and this website
We grant you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the Scout app on your own phone for the purpose of doing Scout work. You must not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, interfere with, or try to defeat any protection in the app, and you must not use the app or website in a way that damages them or anyone else.
The Scout name, the compass mark and all content on this website and in the app belong to Dojah. Nothing in these Terms gives you any right to them beyond the licence above.
We may change, suspend or withdraw the app or any feature at any time. We will try to give notice of changes that affect how you work.
Disclaimers and limits on our liability
The app and website are provided "as is". We do not promise that they will always be available, error-free or secure, or that any amount of work will be offered to you.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Dojah is not liable to you for any loss of earnings, loss of data, or indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of Scout, and our total liability to you in connection with these Terms is limited to the amount of approved earnings unpaid to you at the time the claim arises. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
You are responsible for your own conduct while on a job. You agree to compensate Dojah for any loss or claim caused by your breach of these Terms or of the law.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. The effective date at the top shows the current version. For material changes we will tell agents in the app, and continuing to use the app after that is acceptance of the new Terms. If you do not agree, stop using the app and tell your operations contact.
Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. If a dispute arises, please contact us first and we will try to resolve it with you within 30 days. Disputes that cannot be resolved that way are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Lagos State, Nigeria.
